I have noticed a strange tendency in people (me included) of misjudging perspectives with preferences. A perspective does not or rather should not include any personal likes or dislikes. If it seems to be tilting in a direction, extra care should be taken to reverse the flow of ideas. On the other hand, preferences are all about personal likes and dislikes. A majority of populace passes their personal preferences as perspectives. If you want to convey your preferences – it makes sense to state that up-front, else the disguise clearly looks like a mediocre trick of an average mind. Most entertaining read are the works with personal preferences thrown in left, right, and center. At the same time reading Perspectives is very informative and interesting. But a mish-mash of preferences and perspectives is sure to lead to a dull reading unless subtly segregated. What exactly are the Golden rules of Perspective? I feel that these rules need to be kept in mind while presenting perspective: 1) Thou shall not indulge in any personal comparison. 2) Thou shall not resort to name-twisting, or name-calling. 3) Thou shall think genuinely about the other side of the coin as well. 4) Thou shall be consciously aware of any effect that preferences might be exercising over your work and should counter that as early as possible. In case of preferences however, the opposite rules hold true. The best preferences are the ones that are followed with choicest of words. You need to have conviction in your preferences for them to be interesting. The idiotic Political Correctness is making everyone a slave of layers of hypocrisy that have covered our preferences to the extent that most of us do not know what actually our preferences are? Upon a lot introspection and contemplation, the layers begin to unravel and we realize, we were unconsciously lying to everyone around us. Anyways, that is a separate topic altogether that I will tackle in a different entry. |

Interesting thought...
I always went with the belief that preferences & perspectives went hand in hand with each other...
Detaching perspectives with preferences makes the perspective more broad-minded & true...But if everyone shapes perspective in this manner...we might not get the sort of difference in opinion which makes the word "perspective" as crucial in analysis & forecast as it is...
A lil bit of preferences blended with perspective gives us an insight into the bent of mind of the person..which might be more useful than a perfectly correct version...(As there would be nothing to add value to or derive info from the perfect version)
And yes...Good to see you writing as well as you can..Expecting more originals from you..Kudos..!!!
